I am not sure if Oris is popular here in the Philippines but if you’re looking for a men’s watch and you’re budget does not permit you yet to buy a Rolex, IWC or Patek Philippe, I suggest you check out Oris men’s watches. This swiss made watch brand offers quality and nice-looking men’s watches that will not hurt your pocket that much. This is also a good alternative for the IWC watch that I last featured here.

Oris Classic Date (image above, credit: Oris) is a good choice for a decent entry level men’s watch. It offers you quality, simplicity and style. It’s perfect when you’re going to the office, on a date, or for casual and formal occasions.

Oris Classic Date has three-piece stainless-steel case, big crown, and exquisitely engraved numerals and indices on a finely patterned dial. It is also water resistant up to 164 ft.

I think you can get an Oris Classic Date for around PhP 35,000 here in the Philippines, not bad for a quality and good looking Swiss watch.

Just like what Nokia did when they released the mini version of N97, with N97 mini. Sony Ericsson will be releasing on early 2010 their bugdet version of Sony Ericsson Satio (image above, credit: Sony Ericsson), the Sony Ericsson Kurara. Details and specifications of Sony Ericsson Kurara hasn’t been released but I guess it will be pretty much the same with their topnotch Satio but only this will be a budget version. The camera will be down to 8 megapixels compared to 12 megapixels of Satio. It is supposedly to feature a Symbian S60 5th generation OS Smartphone and full 3.5″ touchscreen display.

I bet you also noticed that Sony Ericsson doesn’t use model names like Cybershot or Walkman anymore, instead, they are trying exotic names such as Satio, Aino and now Kurara. I don’t know the reason behind this but we’re not yet sure if this one will be released as Kurara in the market, it might still change before its release.

Price of this smartphone from Ericsson hasn’t been identified but will surely be cheaper than Saito. I am looking forward of seeing this released soon especially here in the Philippines but we still have to wait for now.

HP released its new line of premium laptops with its new HP Envy. They recently released two models of HP Envy, the HP Envy 13 and HP Envy 15. I am not sure if the Macbook users will envy this new line of laptops from HP. HP Envy 13 and HP Envy looks like a clone of Macbook Pro with its striking resemblance to the latter.

ENVY 13 packs a powerful punch into a slim and stylish package starting at just 3.74 lbs. and less than 1″ thin.

The magnesium alloy bottom layer offers reduced weight, while a pure-grade aluminum chassis provides strength and durability. The Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor with SL9400 1.86 GHz lets you play Blu-Ray5 movies or edit video with lag-free performance, and with the optional ultra-high capacity battery slice offers up to 18 hours. [Credit:HP]

The ENVY 15 is a powerhouse in disguise. Breaking free of the performance notebook mold, it boasts a light weight and sophisticated design.

But this beauty is also a beast. Envy features the new Intel® Core™ i7 processor which delivers ultimate mobile performance for the most demanding tasks from video editing to intense games. A 15.6″ diagonal Brightview widescreen display and ATI Mobility Radeon™ 4830 discrete graphics processor produce the clearest, brightest visuals for viewing Blu-Ray5 and 1080p content. [Credit:HP]

Envy 13’s price in the US is $1700, that’s roughly around 80,000 pesos in the Philippines and HP Envy 15 is around $2000 or 95,000 pesos. I find it expensive and with its price, I am not sure if it can compete well with Macbook, considering the latter is more known when it comes to premium and professional laptops.

With the release of HP Envy, expect HP to release HP Greed, HP Lust etc. Just Kidding.

So, you’re already on your senior year in high school and you still haven’t decided yet on what course to take in college and in what university here in the Philippines are you going to pursue it? Here are some college majors that you might want to consider if you want to look for a high-paying job after graduation and wants to work and stay here in the Philippines:

1. Information Technology/Computer Science – One of the highest paying job for fresh graduates here in the country. This is due to the influx of IT outsourcing companies here. Philippines is one of the best choice along with China and India that offers low-cost IT services. Universities that offer good IT education: UP, DLSU, Ateneo, UA&P

2. Accounting – Basically, the same reason as above. The demand for accounting graduates had increase because of many financial outsourcing companies coming in here in the country plus the fact that every company needs an accountant. Good choice of University: UP, DLSU

3. Medicine – I know studying Medicine is quite expensive but I’m sure your parents investment will pay-off after you get your degree and work as a doctor or build you own clinic. Good choice of University: UP, UST

4. Management Engineering/Electronics and Communications Engineering – One of the biggest sector of the Philippine economy is the electronics industry and with that, there is quite a big demand for electronics engineer to work for these industries. Also ECE graduates can also jump into the high-paying IT industry, given their analytical and technical background. On the other hand, graduates of Management Engineering are more likely to be get hired by the big companies for their Management Trainee (MT) position, and since they are trained to be the future leaders of the organization, these companies offer big starting salary and compensation package for MT. Ateneo, UP, Mapua will be a good choice to study.

5. Architecture – For a developing country like the Philippines, major construction of infrastructures and buildings are being done everywhere. You can see condominiums and subdivisions being built anywhere and its architects are being paid a hefty amount of money for designing these infrastructures. UP and UST offer the best Architecture education.
